Medical devices and power outages
If you rely on powered medical equipment, your backup plan should come from the people who know your device and your health. Our planner does not plan power for medical equipment.
- Your doctor and your device supplier can tell you what backup your equipment needs, whether it has a battery option, and what to do in a long outage.
- Your utility may offer a medical-priority or medical-certificate program. Ask what it covers; it does not guarantee your power stays on.
- An alternate place to go, such as family or a local shelter, matters if an outage lasts longer than any backup.
If someone’s life depends on the equipment and the power goes out, follow your emergency plan and call 911 if needed.
